8th December

Today Buddhists commemorate the Bodhi day. It is the day when Siddhartha Gautauma aka Buddha experienced enlightenment. According to tradition and Wikipedia, Siddhartha had recently forsaken years of extreme ascetic practices and resolved to sit under a peepal tree (sacred fig). Unlike, what happened for Newton, the figs didn’t fall of the tree so instead of discovering gravity Buddha simply continued meditating until he found the root of suffering, and how to liberate oneself from it which to be fair is nothing less than discovering gravity.

Today is also the The Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The name is descriptive enough but for those who are quite slow it celebrates belief in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.”

Today is the day that Buddha received enlightenment and Mary was overshadowed by the Most High. So if it is still 8th of December in your Time Zone go out and just wander around, something good might happen to you.

P.S. happy Bodhi day to all dear Buddhist fellows and happy The Feast of the Immaculate Conception to the fellows who celebrate it.

      • Oh, I hope we will get to go in 2015 again….listen ask me questions if you have any. I love talking about incredible India! We were there for 4 months and traveled a month of that. We were in Ahmedabad in Gujurat and that is why I love Mr. Modi so much! Elections look favorable for him to be the next PM! I am stoked!

      • Oh well, I was telling my architect about you and he said we did not see the Bodh Gaya, but we did go to Sarnath wish is where Buddha preached his first sermon. It is outside Veranasy which is an absolutely must see if you go to India. One of the oldest cities in the whole darn world. Well , we did see a huge tree somewhere , and I think it was a fig tree. Bet Buddha would like it anyway! Try to keep things honest here! 😎
